Atopic Eczema (AE) is also known as Atopic Dermatitis (AD) and is regarded as the most common form of eczema.
Symptoms and Affected Areas
The skin can become red, sore, dry, cracked, and of course itchy. Although it can affect any area of the body, Atopic Eczema often affects the hands, insides of the elbows, and backs of the knees. Infants and children who suffer with AE often experience symptoms on the face and scalp also. Individuals suffering with Atopic Eczema usually experience periods when symptoms are less severe and sometimes unnoticeable, as wells as periods when their eczema flares up. AE can have a significant impact on a person’s life, whether directly suffering from the condition or caring for someone that does.
What can be done?
At this moment in time, there is no
cure for eczema, and the current official view is that the medical profession should manage it. To a very large extent, this view is based on a lack of understanding of why eczema arises and why it can continue for so long. All the information and evidence needed to explain eczema is in the medical literature.
Dr Harley suggests that Atopic Eczema, unpleasant as it can be, is in fact a simple reaction by the skin to irritants. He uses the term “product-maintained dermatitis” to demonstrate how products being used to manage eczema are actually maintaining the eczema.
